Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Chief of Party, the Deputy Chief of Party performs high level tasks and manages various project components, staff, and consultants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Oversee the implementation of activities carried out under the project as designated by the COP.
- Serve as Acting Chief of Party in the Chief of Party’s absence.
- Serve as the lead advisor/trainer for local media on issues of content quality and editorial policy.
- Conduct baseline and periodic quality assessments at Key Partner outlets and documenting findings for the project’s M&E and information management systems.
- Organize, develop curriculum for, and lead on-site trainings and mentoring for Key Partners on content production, ethical journalism, innovative content formats, adjusting newsroom workflows, fact-checking, etc.
- Assist with review of applications for subgrant awards.
- Manage project consultants and trainers, particularly those focused on helping local media improve the quality and diversity of their content offerings, including their reporting schedules, activities, and curriculums.
- Supervise project staff members as designated by the COP.
- Help prepare monthly and quarterly reports/budgets/communications materials/proposals (write, edit, proof, revise).
- Help coordinate the introduction of a people metering system in Kyrgyzstan.
- Represent Internews and the project before USAID and other donors, US government and host country government officials, local partners, other implementing organizations, and the public.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of news, trends, and challenges in the Kyrgyzstani and broader Eurasian media sector.
- Communicate closely with Internews HQ and the COP to ensure coordination across all activities and compliance with USAID and internal regulations.

Qualifications

- Significant professional experience in either print, broadcast or new media.
- Experience as a manager or trainer with professional capacity-building programs for journalists and media outlets.
- Previous senior-level management experience, including significant staff, financial and administrative oversight.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience managing in the region is highly desired.
- Local language skills are highly desirable.
